These are some of the different things we are doing with Brandy as therapy to help in different areas of her development.  We hope that if you are dealing with a situation like ours you might get a new therapy idea.  If you have a therapy idea for us to try please e-mail us.

FOR ORAL MOTOR STIMULATION

  • Stroke the hard pallet

  • Massage gums with washcloth

  • Stroke, kiss, all kinds of  "luv'ins" on the face

FOR TOUCH SENSITIVITY

  • Massage Full Body--massage clockwise

  • Massage hands--can be soothing

FOR MUSCLE STRENGTH

  • Work on turning head to the right--she has mild torticollis

  • We are using a squishy 2" ball to roll around in the palms of her hands to help stetch her hand and wrist muscles

OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL AREAS

  • Bring hands to midline

  • Since Brandy is on so many seizure medications that affect vision (blurry, double-vision, etc.) we have created a "black box" to put a toy in so all background noise is eliminated from the one toy we put in the box.  She loves it, and we think it has really helped her learn to focus again.

  • The box is made of 1" PVC pipe. Dimensions: 30" wide, 36" long. The T's on the top bar are 2" so that they can slide back and forth on the top railing. This is for positioning the toys where Brandy can best reach them or see them.

  • The black fabric has plastic snaps to snap to the box. It can snap to either side or the top for blocking background visual noise.
